Queens' College, one of the foremost Secondary Schools for girls’ education in Nigeria, was established on Monday, 10th October, 1927 to bridge the gap created by the limited scope of secondary education for girls at that time. It is located at Lancaster Road, Onike, Yaba in Yaba Local Government Area of Lagos State, Nigeria.
Presently, Queen’s College is one of the 104 Federal Government owned Unity colleges, run by the Federal Ministry of Education, and headed by a Director as Principal, three Deputy Directors as Vice Principals, and 18 others in the directorate cadre in the management team. The total academic staff strength stands at 163, 90% of whom are professionally qualified and with over fifteen years of teaching experience.
The students population stands at about 2,800 girls, with 2180 of them in the boarding while 616 are day students.
The college has a guidance and Counselling Unit with a Chief Education Officer as the head and six other qualified counselors.
Queen’s College is known for excellence in total education of the girl child and has successfully created equal gender opportunities for them in various fields of endeavour such as Medicines, Engineering, Law, Architecture etc. It has remained the dream school of every girl child and her parents. Its curriculum is rich and geared towards meeting the needs of every child’s ability as well as the needs of the nation with emphasis on Sciences, Technical, Vocational, ICT, Humanities as well as trade subjects.
The products of this great college are found all over the globe excelling, competing and contributing to nation building.
In sports, the college has consistently taken the lead both nationally and internationally. It is the current champion (female category) in the Federal Government Colleges Games (FEDCOL) in 2012, defending champions in female category football in the Lagos First Heritage Colleges Association LAFGHECA for two successive years and also the two time defending champion for Kings College / Queen’s College and Achimota Bilateral Games.
The college partnered with Knightsbridge College, Devou, United Kingdom for the International Inspiration Project of the British Council. It is also an active partner with the Commonwealth Education Partnerships 2013/2014.
Queens' College has had 23 Principals since inception, the current Principal being Dr. (Mrs.) Lami Amodu.
